In a new partnership with Lowe's Canada, Mag will be producing a video series of fun, colourful projects that families can build together!
Whether it’s a giant chalkboard for the kitchen, a photo puzzle for toddlers, a birdfeeder for the backyard or a skateboard ramp for the whole neighborhood, Family Constructables will cover step-by-step building for all ages.
Each 3-5 minute episode will be accompanied by downloadable step-by-step instructions loaded with extra tips and mini-lessons, so even if parents aren't experienced in building, they can learn alongside their kids!
For parents and children, building something together can be a lifelong bonding experience. They share the best of themselves as they conceive, invent and problem-solve their way to a successful creation.
By offering an online destination for kids and parents to search and choose projects for their family, Lowe’s is ensuring that generations to come will know how to work with their hands and build soul-satisfying projects with their own children. The video series will launch on Lowes.ca in 2012.

Mag....you are such an inspiration to this old- house owning gal! How I wish I could have made it to the Home Show (alas..a long way from Washington state) and taken your Power Tools for Beginners workshop, power tools kind of scare me. Best of luck on your new book, we love Red/Green down here in the states and miss seeing it, those guys are so fun and we are in dire need of some chuckles. By the way, I was watching my Avonlea videos last night (trying to avoid the news)...I think I'll record your's and Rachael Lind's laughs and put them on my Ipod, I'll be walking around giggling and looking crazy but who the heck cares!! Thanks again Mag...you are the BEST!!

Mag, I went to my local Home Depot store to purchase Ecomist & they didn't have it. I then checked online & no luck either. I went to Canadian HD site & it looks like it can only be bought in the store & not online. Ecomist website doesn't seem to have a selling feature. Know of any other source to try? PS-Thx to you I'm organizing my closet! Reading your article gave me the nudge I needed--I just bought a shoe organizer & am anxious to get it up ! :)
Posted by: KarinN | 05/04/2009 at 03:26 PM
PS-I live in IL & it would seem the States aren't being as progressive w/alternative cleaning products as Canada is trying to do in their HD stores. :( UGH. Businesses sure make it hard for us to try & be responsible w/helping the environment w/our cleaning product purchases. :(
Posted by: KarinN | 05/04/2009 at 03:29 PM
Hi Karin,
So sorry that HD in the States isn't up to speed yet on EcoMist. I'll contact the manufacturer and post as soon as I have info.
Mag

Mag, I received an email from someone at EcoMist who said he's "setting up a distributorship in the US and web site for purchasing. Meanwhile I can sell you the products directly in quantities of 6". I just wanted to try out the all-purpose cleaner before purchasing the quantity he mentioned so I'll have to ponder what to do next...

Hi:
I have tried (several times over the past year or so) to leave queries or comments for Steve Maxwell.
All I get is "Internal Server Error" (and no error number or explanation) when I hit "submit"...
I have an IBM PC, running Win XP, Rogers Yahoo Wireless Internet/Email, IE6 (due to visual handicaps), 1 GB RAM.
I get the same responce from the "Contact Us" link.
A disposable email addy is:

Thank you. PML

Hi,
You have a great site, and I thought you might be interested in a new hole cutting tool that I recently bought.
I saw this great tool on DIY Network, the Hole Pro X-230 adjustable hole cutter that cuts holes from 2"-9" that I used to install canned lights in my kitchen ceiling.
It was very easy to use, and kept the working area clean from dust.
Next I'm looking at installing ceiling speakers with it.
Keep up the good work!!

I second Dana's post - you rock! I loved your tv show! :) Now I wanna get me some sugru!
Posted by: Belle | 17/05/2010 at 01:42 AM
A recent article you penned "In Dire Weed" and posted in our local paper was interesting up untill the comment "piss-a-beds" and then you proceeded to say that this weeding tool could "grab the weed by the short and curlies". I am not a prude by any means but I found the use of these phrases offensive and completely out of place in a family newspaper. As a writer I would think that your vocabulary would we wide enough to include a more appropriate description. Kindly consider your readers when submitting your articles for publication. Yes, the publisher does have final say as to what is published in the paper but the writer must surely have a responsibility here.

Hello Mag,
Just read your article in the London Free Press about mulching your garden to keep it weed free. Your redference to getting info from the internet as a source of expertise is ridiculous. Who says the internet is the place to go for expert information. Personally you whole article from a horticultural persepctive is full of errors about mulching. No one should ever put 8 inches of mulch on a garden, it will eventually kill the plants. Leave the gardening advice to horticultural people with experience. It is people like you who give gardening a bad name, as well as tooting the "next gimmick" to gardening. Your article lacks knowledge and common sense.
Posted by: Gord Shuttleworth | 16/08/2011 at 07:41 AM
Hey Gord, I can only assume you're a horticulturalist but I wouldn't know it from your comment. If you have better answers, please share them with us. We have only your word that the ideas are wrong but you haven't offered any constructive corrections. If you have positive information, please contribute.

I just read your article in a local newspaper about replacing the toilet tank flapper to stop water leaks.
Another source of toilet leakage is from a faulty ballcock. When it doesn't close completely when the tank is full, water continues to flow and eventually runs down the overlow standpipe into the tank (continuously).
Unfortunately, repairing, or replacing the ballcock isn't as easy as replacing the flapper.
Posted by: Len Murray | 28/11/2011 at 03:22 PM
That's true, Len, and you're right, replacing a ballcock is a bit more complicated. The toilet flap leak is usually sneakier though, and perhaps more common, because you can't hear it so you don't even know you have a problem. Would you agree?
